Wed, 08:10: And we're off! I officially have a high schooler. His first class just started and I'm like OK self, he's not your 2lb baby anymore. Deal.
Wed, 08:12: And then self is like but....but...he's my small, sweet guy in a school of 1600! A quarter of whom are damn near adults. Halp!
Wed, 08:13: Fortunately, his HS did a remarkable job of hosting orientations geared towards fostering community and making everyone comfortable.
Wed, 08:14: Also, they're doing this thing where freshmen and new students show up first to go through their schedules / find their classes...
Wed, 08:16: Then, they have a new student welcome assembly, and THEN the rest of the school shows up around 10 for classes. Good on you, giant HS.
Wed, 08:22: At Jonas' orientation last week, they broke the kids into groups of ten freshman and two upper classmen volunteering as resource guides.

Wed, 08:22: They spent hours getting to know one another and making plans to meet one another each morning before class for the first weeks of school.
Wed, 08:24: They talked about different clubs students are encouraged to join. I am strongly encouraging Jonas to join the Pacific Islander club.
Wed, 08:25: I told him "these are your peers who will understand the particular way in which your mother is bonkers."
Wed, 08:29: He laughed and then looked at me and said "That's actually a really good idea." I said YOU HAVE NO IDEA.
